taking possession of my sailboat

Posted by on February 18, 2009

It’s an early flight out of Albuquerque via Houston down to Corpus Christi, the 35 minute flight from Houston to Corpus feels like hours.  I think I have told almost everyone on the plane that it’s my birthday and I’m going to take possession of my first sailboat!  and it tastes like the flight attendant spiked my orange juice to shut me up  :)Emily taking possession of her new sailboat

I am so excited I can barely sit in the seat … I didn’t expect to be THIS excited about having a sailboat; but she is changing my life and I haven’t even seen her in person yet.  Although everyone in my family has.

I finally arrive in Corpus at 11am right on time; almost run to my rental car and start driving to Aransas Pass to meet Jerry (the current owner) at noon.  I call him to verify our time and he is running almost 2 hours late (I almost cried) … what a bummer!  I call my sister to have lunch and hang out … that will help the time pass a little faster.  Just after lunch Jerry calls … he made up some time and is only 30 minutes out.  The immense excitement returns, I can’t sit still again!  I’m SO glad Cindy is with me, it helps to occupy my mind.

I drive up and want to run to the boat, but I keep my composure (the best I can anyway) and introduce myself and sister, shake hands and head on to the boat.  She is a beauty and truly is exactly what I wanted for my first boat.  She has never been named … she will be the Lady Iris, in memory of my mother.

Needless to say I’m going through every drawer, cabinet and cubby space this boat has looking for every treasures when Jerry starts educating me on all the specifics of my new sailboat.

It’s time to sign the papers, note to all: make sure to open the title (if there is no bank loan) and fill out ALL of the information requested.  It’s official the boat is mine to learn on and do with as I like … WOW, what a feeling.

Cindy and I are headed off to the sign shop to have the name made …
