Hey Jerry, we got her out quite a bit this spring the summer not at all ... looking forward to fall. The marina just about burned to the ground last month but the Lady was spared somehow. I'll start posting again to show you what we got done this spring and then of course what all we get done this fall and winter. She is amazing to sleep on!

Ms. Emily-
My husband and I are in the process of purchasing a 28' 81 Lancer in need of some TLC and your blog was the first thing I happened across in my search for the best way to deal with the horrid vinyl covering the walls/ceiling in the cabin. What a great blog! You have wonderful practical advice and detailed fixes which is so helpful. Our boat, too, is unnammed and I can't wait to start thinking of names...I'd love to see more interior pics as that's 'my domain' as my husband put it but I'll dig around the site a little more. I'd love to see what you did about the cabin interior.
Happy Sailing!

Hi Emily

Welcome back (see people do check). The one good thing about a blog crashing is that you can build it back bigger and better.

Hey Dave, thanks for the comment! On removing the shaft I had to cut the shaft coupling in half because it was rusted beyond recognition. We tried using heat to expand it with no success. Once the shaft coupling was removed it was as easy as pulling the shaft from the propeller end.

Putting the shaft back in was just as easy, no grease or anything. Just one person inside to guide the shaft in to location and me outside with a rubber mallet to tap it in completely.

I was surprised at how simple the installation was.

Great photos of the cutlass bearing, that is very helpful. I am pulling my sailboat out of the water for a bottom paint next week and will be changing the cutlass bearing as well.

Can you explain how you removed the shaft ? I imagine you unbolted it from the transmission and removed that fitting/joint that couples it to the transmission ? Then is it as simple as pulling it out by grabbing the propellor and yanking ? How about installing the new shaft, use grease to get thru the cutlass or how ?

Thanks so much for your comment! This project has been an amazing adventure, I will work on pics this weekend and adding a gallery as well as a couple of blog postings from my last visit a few weeks ago.

I am heading down as well to spend a week or two on my boat doing some work, now that the electrical has been reviewed I feel safe staying on her full-time while I'm down in S. Texas.

Stay in touch!
